. First Flight impressions from a long time Phantom and Mavic pilot of the FPV drone. I’ve been flying a Phantom since getting a Phantom 2 back in 2014. I’ve flown extreme environments on the open ocean and from over 10,000 feet at the caldron of a volcano. I’ve become quite comfortable with using those DJI drones. I’ve gained trust in the DJI flight software and capabilities of the drones. Because of that, I’ve been able to capture some beautiful moments in my travels that I could never have imagined without drone photography. I learned to fly manual on toy drones in the beginning, but, quickly adapted to DJI’s GPS technology. After 3 batteries today I find the FPV to be a familiar performing DJI drone, however, it demands respect.Extremely fast even in “Normal” mode, the FPV is very responsive compared to any Phantom or Mavic. Care should be taken, if like myself, you’ve never used Goggles and losing sight of the drone before takeoff is a little disconcerting. Your seeing everything through the Goggles that the drone see’s, a’la, First Person View. The Goggles transmission is so crystal clear it’s like your using your own eyes and suddenly your wondering why you can’t move your head to see the drone? In the air it shoots to 62 mph in “Sport” in a thought. No buildup or lag, it’s a Ferrari compared to Phantoms and Mavics. Be respectful of that acceleration and speed. I would recommend getting it a 100 feet or more above the tallest thing you might hit and fly it around. Bank it, dive and climb. The Goggles are so crystal clear you literally feel like a bird in the sky. It’s so good some banks and turns gave me a twinge of motion sickness. The illusion of flight is real!Flight time was about 12 minutes for me with each of 3 batteries. Of course, I was flying in “Sport” as fast as it would go untill the battery level got low. There is no 30% warning default like a Phantom or Mavic of low battery. Keep a close eye on your battery before the FPV goes RTH on you for low battery. Good news is that my 1st battery was fully charged in 30 minutes from 20% and ready to use after my third battery was used up.Goggles are very impressive! WoW! So clear and immersive. The Ocusync 3.0 is really good. No interference or latency at over 6000 feet from my position. Really impressive range in any direction. This drone is not a marathon runner like a Mavic Pro or Phantom 4 Pro 2.0, but, it’s not because it would lose connection. At all times the transmission of video from the drone to the Goggles was perfect! I saw a buzzard in the air riding the current and I got close, it seemed like it was really next to me. I’m blown away by these FPV Goggles!I also got to see the the ADS system in operation as it alerted me a aircraft was approaching. It’s frightening when you 1st see it in your Goggles! I stopped the drone, never saw the aircraft and kept the FPV low. I’m not sure how far away a aircraft has to be before it’s triggered but I never saw or heard a plane. The system definitely works, just don’t panic when it happens and put your FPV in “Normal” mode and keep your altitude low.I know that FPV drone flight is like a art form for FPV pilots. It takes hours and months of practice and flying to become competent and only a few can fly like Tom Cruise in Top Gun. However, that’s the trap you must avoid if like myself, you’ve only flown Phantoms and Mavics. The DJI FPV drone is familiar in alot of ways, just don’t start thinking it’s the same. It’s not. It’s very quick and fast with extremely responsive movement. I know I’m going to be using the DJI Fpv simulator for some time before I begin entertaining thoughts of putting my FPV in manual mode. And when I do, I’m hoping to fly above a field of marshmallows. Finally, my first day flying the DJI FPV drone was Epic! I haven’t felt this excited about a drone or as anxious about what would happen since the first time I flew my Phantom 2. It’s capabilities as a video centric camera is limited only by the pilots imagination and skill. Just remember the immortal words of the Instructor to Maverick in Top Gun, “Don’t let your Ego write checks that your A** can’t cash!” (and if you do, I hope you got Care Refresh)

. First off … there’s very little in the way of instructions in the box. You’re going to have to watch the tutorials and understand the different modes and buttons. There are LOTS of settings and hidden functionality with this kit.You also need to charge 4 components.1) Your mobile Phone2) The battery pack for the FPV goggles3) The controller4) The drone itselfThis will all take time. Then when you get excited and keen to get going and connect it all up … well then hang your coat back up. The goggles and app and drone all wanted an update in my case. Over 330Mb in one case. Long story short it took over an hour. So once everything is charged and updated … you’re ready to go … or are you? Nope. You really do need to watch the video to understand what comes off (Gimbal protector) and how to switch on the battery packs and finally a lot of the controls themselves. Then … and only then are you ready to fly.One thing that will come as a massive surprise is the weight of the drone itself. It’s like nothing I’ve ever flown before … it feels like a house brick. I suspect that is in order to get the 20 mins of batter power. The drone itself is tiny and very stable even in a good wind. Video quality is very good (it needs to be for FPV) and response is very slick. You need some previous experience with Drones to fly this safely …. but there are 3 controls you MUST know where they are and how to access them blind. Remember with goggles on you can’t look down and spot the controls. So NUMBER 1 : Make sure you know where the BRAKE/HOVER RETURN TO HOME is. It’s the same button. Press it once quickly and the drone immediately stops and hovers while you gather your thoughts.NUMBER 2 : Return to Home. If it all goes to a ball of string press and HOLD the BRAKE/HOVER button for 2 seconds and the drone will head back home …. a word of warning … it doesn’t always take the most direct router back to you AND it won’t always land where it took off …. that can be a worry as I’ve seen it land 2 meters away from where it took off.Number 3 : Do you know how to look up and down? When flying this is super helpful. Use the silver wheel on the left.Important TIPS : If this is your first time flying in FPV mode have someone with you. They get a bigger picture of things than you do …. for example if the drone starts to move towards you all you may see is a little drift. Someone else might see it’s drifting close enough to hurt you. Secondly I recommend sitting down the first few times. FPV flight can make you dizzy so be careful. My last comment : This is possible the best drone I have flown to date. This is a LOT of fun in FPV and I’ve just bought the hand sensory controller as well. Enjoy.

. Don’t buy this garbage. You’re one firmware update away from bricking your device into a very very expensive paper weight and there’s no way of fixing and no support from DJI.

. Ive not used this on manual mode yet, but flown about 10kilometers in normal and sports mode. Some slate the drones camera quality but its pretty good, but yes the video is superb. Be aware the return to home feature often goes wrong. Firstly it wastes battery power flying up to 200meters high and takes ages to get back down again. Secondly it loses track of where home is, once it tried to land on my car and another time it got stuck in a tree and fell out. However the ability to see where your going is great. Oh and the range of 10 kilometers, no. Be lucky if you get one kilometer before picture is lost and return to home gets activated, even with line of sight to the drone. The optional motion controller is fun and is easier to control over undulating ground. As a newbie you can fly in normal mode, even land and take off in normal mode, then fly in sports once your accustomed to it. Manual mode is completely different, the controls are different, no safety or even self righting, be prepared for some emergency stops, the app training of manual mode has some value but is completely unrealistic. All in all, great fun, really handy, checked my roof tiles after a storm. Even flew in 40mph winds for a bit, drone managed surprisingly well but i dont recommend it.

. It’s a brilliant bit of kit, dead easy to use having never flown a quadcopter before. The Goggle’s are comfy enough for the 5 batteries I have now bought to be used without having to rest my head, neck or eyes. With one battery it’s a waste of time TBH … With 5 barriers it’s great.. But I could double that.. But the cost 😮😮😮.It’s very robust , I’ve bounced off tree branches and had it land upside on the floor…broken one prop so far ..( I’ve used about 51 fully charged batteries so far ) I’ve lost it twice.. Thank God for the buzzer you can use to locate it..BUT GET A BATTERY STRAP tree bounced once and knocked the battery out , 2 hours to find it..no signal, no beeper , no lights… Thinking of excuses to tell the misses that I’ve lost my toyIt’s very fast in sports mode.. Feels faster in the forest…. Trees come at you really quick.. Still not used full manual mode as tbh doing the flips etc is not what Im really wanting to do….yetOverall it’s been great fun using, so much so that 2 of my mates have bought the fpv and 4 extra batteries each….The range when your on your own is staggering ( in line of sight ) in the forest about 350 meters above 2 meters from the floor… Drop below that and it’s gets a bit sketchy…rth in a forest …nope not going to work… In open line off sight I flew 4500 meters away ( yes we have a big secure area to fly) I was more worried about the battery level more than dropping connection.. But it will tell you that you need to rth ( return to home) and had always landed with 15% battery left..I play safe, not sillyOn a long range flight all 3 flying together.. Chasing each other around the secure flying spot we use.. Things can get a bit worrying..I’ve lost connection a few times….Goggle’s off run towards the fpv away from my mates… Connection back all happy again..

. I purchased this kit and added on the Stick Controller and had a blast with this thing! I have had my kids flying it around within 30 seconds grasping the basics of flight maneuvering. The safety features and technology are incredible. I thought about building my own but am so glad I paid a little extra for all the added on features that come with DJI stuff. Highly recommend. I rated the Battery Life a 4….the controller and goggle batteries are great the charge lasts a long time. However the drone battery last 15-20 minutes tops!! This is always a challenge, but that is what I consider the weak point of this drone.

. This UAS is amazing. With 21 satellites the Return to Home (RTH) feature is phenomenal. I have had at minimum 21 satellites in range and from the position the drone launched and where it landed, using the RTH system, it deviated maybe 100mm. I only tested it 3x now. I’ve only flown a small drone pre-programmed using a Raspberry Pi, so I’m not an expert in manually flying drones, nor do I intend to be an FPV enthusiast. However, out of the box the DJI FPV is extremely user friendly. This is definitely not a “toy.” It’s designed for those who commit to safety guidelines, FAA regulations, and utilize an attention to detail to prevent operational failures. Please adhere to safety regulations based on your location. Based on the specs this thing should be registered with the FAA and it’s your responsibility to get a TRUST certification to pilot this vehicle. These requirements are only for recreational use, so it gets more complicated when you intend to use this for other purposes. The DJI FPV drone is more than capable to perform tasks well beyond what it’s expected from your average drone. With a spotter, the range I was able to achieve was 1800 meters at a vertical height of 320 meters from the point of origin. This is not a toy. If you’re serious about piloting a drone or training to be a professional in the field, this product is something I’m starting with. The safety features are remarkable. They are definitely not flawless, so don’t rely on the tech, you need to do your homework. The engineers, on the other hand, are geniuses.DJI is a quality manufacturer, the product arrived in excellent condition, and the condition of the drone is brand new. Amazon driver was professional and confirmed the delivery by instructing me to provide the security code. Before this Amazon order, I’ve never spent this amount of money on a product that I ordered, so I was a bit nervous. I’m not so concerned now, since everything worked out as planned.Amazing product and amazing service. The Amazon delivery people do not get enough credit. I wish I knew this person’s name, because I would give him 10 stars out of 5. DJI is the way to go.
